Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu Australia
Rachael is committed to training her students to gain the same physical discipline and mental clarity that continues to inform and transform her life. She commenced training in Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu in 2007 with Kondo Katsuyuki Sensei at his Shimbukan Dojo in Katsushika-ku, Tokyo, Japan and she is honoured and humbled to have Kondo Sensei as her teacher.
Since then Rachael has gone on to visit Kondo Sensei and his family in Japan many times to train and absorb the unique heritage and culture of Japan and its traditions. It is Rachael’s deep privilege to spend time with Kondo Sensei and his family.
Kondo Sensei says ‘Budo and life are the same’. Daito Ryu is not just a collection of techniques, it’s a way of life and this comes through in its students, in their patience and their focus and the warmth they display. When you meet Rachael, you get the full sense of Kondo Sensei’s belief about Budo (Japanese martial arts).
Rachael learns Daito Ryu directly from Kondo Sensei and his students at Kondo Sensei’s hombu Dojo in Japan. She is also studying ‘Shodo’ the art of brush calligraphy with Kondo Sensei and practices ‘Shodachi’ which is ‘first cut’ sword drawing. In 2013, Rachael and her family were honoured to host Kondo Sensei and his family here in Australia for New Year Celebrations.
As a teacher, Rachael wishes to share to the best of her ability the invaluable lessons she has learnt by studying this ancient art.
